A US Club Soccer GotSports account is required for volunteer coaches in order to complete risk management requirements: disqualification review (one-time), background screening (every other year), and SafeSport training (annually).
If you don't already have an account with GotSports, one will be created. Please be sure you log into your GotSport account using the same email address used as part of the club registration process.
The disqualification-suspention review acknowledgement and background screening are completed as part of the US Club Soccer registration process via GotSports Platform.
Submission of this self-certification form initiates the Disqualification-Suspension Review process with US Club Soccer where they check the person being registered as a coach against the various disqualification and suspension lists.
Background screening is should be completed prior to coaches having regular contacts with youth players. It is then required every other year thereafter.
SafeSport Core and Refresher Training is required online training for all recreational coaches by Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and Safe Sport Authorization Act of 2017 (the “SafeSport Act”). Training must be as part of the US Club Soccer registration process via GotSports Platform.
The training covers the following topics:
Sexual abuse, hazing and bullying
Emotional and physical misconduct
Harassment (non-sexual)
Reporting obligations
U.S. Soccer created a video to bring greater awareness to concussions in soccer. We strongly encourage our coaches to watch this and become more aware and better prepared for concussion-related injuries.
HEADS UP to Youth Sports is a free, online course provided by the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention that is highly recommended for all Recreational coaches. Coaches can improve the culture of concussion by taking the free online training and using what you learn to inform how you talk about, prevent, and respond to concussions. Your actions can help create a safe environment for young athletes so that they can stay healthy, active, and thrive – both on and off the playing field.
By the end of the training, you will be prepared to:
Explain what a concussion is and the potential consequences of this injury,
Identify at least three concussion signs and symptoms,
Describe the steps for returning to activity (play and school) after a concussion, and
Create a plan for how to help keep athletes safe from concussion.
